I had the pleasure of visiting Oakham school on 14th October and representing Leicester Print Workshop as their Textile Tutor. The long, rural drive to arrive for an early start was well worth it! The gloomy Autumnal weather was lifted by the colourful, vibrant, organic prints that were produced throughout the day! Working with an enthused group of year nine pupils again was a real treat! The pupils looked at organic, Autumnal mood boards for inspiration and made sketches of their ideas for stencils.

We then transferred ideas into paper cut stencils with wonderful flowing lines, delicate details and ambitious structure! The pupils then experienced creating a colourful background print on to fabric using an open silk screen for the very first time! The results ranged form ultra bright, autumnal orange stripes, to moody, streaky, storm filled skies!!

By the afternoon, printing was in full flow and pupils began to place their stencils on top of their backgrounds! Contrasting ink colours were chosen and mixed and organic shapes were screen printed ! Here are a few photos of how we achieved the stunning, silk screen printed results!
